We’re keeping a close eye on the whole mystery box industry since 2020, and LuxDrop stands out compared to most other sites. Whether you’re new to mystery boxes or a veteran like us, they’ve a lot to offer.
Reading about odds is one thing. Watching them is another.
This demo box costs $10 a go and holds five items. Every mystery box site works like it: you pick a box, a reel spins, an item lands, and you ship it or sell it back.
Open it a few times and watch the count at the bottom. Spent goes up by $10 every time. Pulled mostly goes up by 80 cents.
That gap is the return to player (RTP) at work. This box returns 90%, so over many opens you lose 10%. Our guide on how mystery box RTP works has the maths.
No money is involved here. On a real site it is, and the house always wins. Set a limit before you start, and if it stops being fun, GambleAware is there.

Your call
1. Pick a box
Every box lists its items and the odds for each one. Read them before you pay. A site that hides the odds? Leave.
2. Open it
The reel spins for a few seconds and stops on your item. That is the whole product. Battles, upgrades and races dress it up. Chance still decides.
3. Ship it or sell it back
Have the item shipped and wait one to three weeks. Or sell it back for site balance, which is instant and keeps your money on the site.
4. Check the roll
Good sites are provably fair. A server seed, a client seed and a nonce decide each roll, and you can check it afterwards. The house still wins: this box returns 90%.

Other types of mystery boxes
IRL Shipped Mystery Boxes are traditional physical surprise boxes sent through the mail. You only discover what’s inside once they arrive — with no odds, no digital reveal, and no option to sell back items you don’t want.
✗ No instant reveal ✗ No transparency on odds ✗ Whatever arrives is what you keep
CS2 Lootboxes & FIFA Packs are in-game purchases that award virtual items only (like skins or player cards). They exist exclusively within the game ecosystem and sometimes can be traded on marketplaces.
✗ Virtual items only ✗ Value depends entirely on the game’s lifespan ✗ Often limited or unclear odds transparency
Subscription Boxes are monthly curated boxes (beauty, snacks, clothing, etc.). These are not chance-based — you pay for themed selections, not gambling-style mechanics.
✗ No element of chance ✗ Recurring monthly commitment ✗ Often worth less than the subscription cost
But of course, online mystery boxes have their own problems as well.
Legit or scam: trust, transparency and fraud
The mystery box industry has grown quickly — and not always responsibly. It includes both reputable operators and sites with questionable practices, making it hard for users to determine who to trust.
And that’s why BetterChecked is needed
Several platforms have shut down unexpectedly (e.g., Drakemall in 2024, Hypeloot in 2025)
Some sites have been linked to fake reviews, undelivered prizes, or banned users
Influencer promotions can be misleading or staged
Acquisitions can change how sites operate — sometimes for the worse
Users regularly lose money due to hidden odds, low RTP, or outright fraud
Positive trust signals
Transparent, visible odds for every box
RTP (Return to Player) publicly shown
Real delivery proof (photos, tracking screenshots)
Multiple payment methods — a sign of processor confidence
Clear ownership and identifiable company representatives
Authentic, not fabricated, user reviews
Responsive customer support
Provably fair systems
Major red flags
Only crypto deposits
Chronic “out of stock” issues trapping credits
Missing legal info or company imprint
No social proof of satisfied customers (e.g. Discord)
Unpaid affiliate commissions
Large clusters of suspiciously positive reviews (e.g., Dripdraw’s ~3,000 fake reviews in 2024)
Hidden or constantly changing ownership structures
polished ui/ux
lots of game modes
withdrawal refusals reported
toxic discord moderators
team behind RustMagic
rigged outcome complaints
Upgrader.com launched in early 2025 with bold promises of transparency and a “provably fair” experience, but user reviews tell a different story — the platform holds a dismal 2.9 rating with widespread complaints about rigged outcomes and manipulated results.
Behind the scenes, they’ve demonstrated unethical business practices, including silently slashing affiliate commissions without notice. Their previous projects drown in scam allegations and bad reviews.
Upgrader’s Discord is notably filled with user losses rather than wins, and the community atmosphere has turned toxic with moderators insulting / banning users — all red flags suggesting this platform prioritizes profit over player trust.
While we cannot confirm danger, we’re strongly encouraging anyone to be cautious with Upgrader.
Dripdraw
failed since 2023
300k+ registered users
undelivered products reported
3k+ fake trustpilot reviews
links to hypeloot
accounts banned without reason
Dripdraw launched in 2020 and quickly built a solid reputation with over 300,000 users and thousands of positive reviews thanks to innovative features and reliable deliveries.
However, after being taken over by new owners in early 2023, the platform took a sharp turn — users began reporting undelivered products, accounts being banned without reason, and completely unresponsive customer support. The new operators have allegedly flooded Trustpilot with thousands of fake reviews to mask the decline, making DripDraw a site we strongly advise against using today.
HypeLoot
is the biggest mystery box fraud in history
$2m user funds lost
$1.1m ico scam
fake trustpilot reviews
no product deliveries
account bans widespread
Hypeloot was one of the biggest scams in mystery box history, defrauding users of roughly $2 million before shutting down in October 2025.
The mystery box platform itself was essentially a facade — while users faced undelivered products, unjustified account bans, and unresponsive support, the operators were building toward their real play: a fraudulent crypto ICO for the $HPLT token that alone collected $1.1 million from investors before vanishing without ever releasing the token.
If you lost money to Hypeloot, you’re unfortunately not alone, and the site hypeloot-scam-exposed.com has documented the full extent of their practices.
Lootie
was once a pioneer, but turned dangerous
stopped delivering products
credits-only refunds
australian cease and desist
overdue tax filings
site unreachable late 2025
Lootie launched in 2019 as one of the early mystery box pioneers, building a solid reputation with a clean interface and strong social proof including a 4.2 Trustpilot rating from thousands of reviews.
However, the platform eventually stopped fulfilling deliveries — customers reported being told items were “out of stock” and receiving only site credits instead of actual products, effectively trapping their deposits.
By late 2025, Lootie appears to be completely unavailable, marking what seems to be the end of a platform that went from industry leader to cautionary tale.
Ceased mystery box sites
Sadly couple of great mystery box sites ceased operations as well. In here, we want to quickly wrap on the most important sites of the past.
6 years experience
paypal deposits available
shut down oct 2025
~130 discord members
MysteryOpening was a smaller Estonian-based mystery box platform that operated for around 6 years, offering a clean user experience with battles, a solid affiliate program, and decent community engagement on Discord and social media.
Despite maintaining a respectable 4.0 Trustpilot rating and loyal user base, the team announced in October 2025 that they decided to close the site, hinting it simply no longer felt right for them to continue.
MysteryBoxBrand
turned off lights without notice
free $2.50 signup
instant balance credit
inactive since 2023
fake leaderboard activity
no visible ownership
MysteryBoxBrand was a mystery box platform that operated from around 2020 to 2023, offering users free sign-up boxes and a layout that closely resembled competitor Lootie.
The site quietly ceased operations without any official announcement, leaving behind an inactive website with no payment processing and artificially inflated activity metrics that still display to this day.
No clear ownership was ever disclosed, and the platform never established a Trustpilot presence or meaningful community trust before going dark.
Boxy.gg was a promising mystery box platform that launched in 2024, known for its exceptionally clean UI/UX, custom box creator, and innovative features like instant crypto withdrawals and user-created boxes.
In September 2025, the site went into maintenance mode after the team discovered a security exploit that led to fraudulent withdrawals going undetected for some time. Despite initial promises to return and honor legitimate pending payouts, the platform never came back online — leaving the community uncertain whether it was a genuine breach they couldn’t recover from or something else entirely.
Hybe
stays the team's all-time favorite site
unique artistic ui/ux
107k twitter followers
shut down dec 2024
questionable provably fair
inflated item valuations
HYBE was one of the original mystery box pioneers, launching in 2018 and growing to become the industry’s largest platform with over 1 million verified users and a team of 20+ employees at its peak.
Known for their exceptional experience and focus on hypebeasts rather than traditional gamblers, they carved out a unique niche by offering luxury and hard-to-get products.
In December 2024, they unexpectedly announced closure effective December 31st — the exact reasons remain unclear, though industry speculation points to a combination of legal pressures, competitive tensions with other major players, and potential plans to rebuild under a new version.

We’ve tried to answer the most common questions regarding mystery boxes. Feel free to drop us a message at hello@betterchecked.com, maybe we can help you out.
Do mystery box sites actually deliver physical items?
Reputable ones do — usually via dropshipping from vendors like Apple or StockX. Expect 1-3 week delivery times, potential customs fees, and shipping costs that make you reconsider your life choices. Always check delivery proof screenshots.
What happened to Drakemall and Dripdraw?
Both were pioneers that fell from grace. Drakemall shut down in May 2024 after ownership changes led to scam allegations. Dripdraw changed owners in 2023 too and quickly devolved into non-deliveries and fake reviews. RIP to the originals.
What payment methods do mystery box sites accept?
Most accept Visa/Mastercard (via processors like Zen), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and crypto (BTC, ETH, USDT). Some take gift cards from Kinguin or G2A. If a site only accepts crypto with no alternatives, proceed with caution.
What does RTP mean in mystery boxes?
RTP (return-to-player) is the percentage you theoretically get back over many opens. A 90% RTP means you’ll probably lose 10% long-term. Sites often disclose this, so assume the house always wins — because it does.
Why do mystery box sites want me to join Discord?
Discord is where the community lives — giveaways, support, updates, and social proof happen there. It’s also cheaper than email marketing and makes you feel like part of an exclusive club. Join for the free boxes, stay for the memes.
What’s an upgrader in mystery boxes?
The upgrader lets you risk an item for a chance at something better. Select a target multiplier, pray to the algorithm gods, and watch your prize either multiply or vanish. High risk, occasionally high reward, always high drama.
What is provably fair and why should I care?
Provably fair (PF) uses cryptographic seeds (server seed, client seed, nonce) to let you verify each roll wasn’t rigged. Look for HMAC-SHA256 algorithms and per-open seed verification. If a site doesn’t offer PF, your trust is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Learn more about the Provably Fair mechanics.
How do I spot a scam mystery box site?
Red flags include: withdrawal delays, missing company imprint, fake Trustpilot reviews (hello, AI-generated 5-stars), chronic “out of stock” items, and customer support that ghosts you. Research before depositing. Learn more about the top red flags of scam mystery boxes.
What are common mystery box freebies?
Free sign-up boxes, daily login rewards, referral bonuses, rakeback on losses, Discord giveaways, livestream promo codes, and “rain” drops in chat. Sites love giving you just enough free stuff to keep you depositing.
What are mystery box battles?
Battles pit multiple players opening the same box — highest roll wins all items. Variations include group battles, terminal mode (only last box counts), and crazy mode (lowest value wins). It’s PvP gambling with extra dopamine.
What’s the difference between sell-back and cashout?
Sell-back (instant sell) converts your won item into site balance at a discount. Cashout (withdrawal) moves that balance off-platform via crypto, bank, or e-wallet. One keeps you playing; the other lets you convert your credits to real money.
Are mystery boxes gambling?
Legally? It depends on your jurisdiction. Functionally? You’re paying money for a chance-based outcome. Most sites operate in regulatory grey zones. Never expect to profit — treat it as entertainment, not an investment strategy.
